The Deliboz originates from Azerbaijan and certain neighbouring areas of Armenia and Georgia. During the study of large horse populations prior to and following the second world war, the deliboz was eventually singled out by specialists.
The Deliboz was improved by Arabian, Karabakh and Tersk ancestry, although the Karabakh was later bred separately. This led to a widespread influx of the Deliboz horse throughout western Azerbaijan.
The Deliboz horse has a fairly distinctive, but rather odd lengthwise fold of the tongue which gives the impression of a forked tongue. It also has a vast and muscular body with a compact and heavy neck leading to its wide forehead and yet narrow nose. Its Legs are well proportioned to its powerful body and the cannon bone girth is larger than that of other horses.
The strapping and athletic appearance bodes well as the Deliboz shows a great work ethic and can easily travel up to seventy kilometres a day with a rider in tow. However, not only is strength and stamina in abundance, but the deliboz also shows a nippy turn of pace and can race at well under two minutes for a mile.
Dashyuz stud farm holds well in excess of 100 Deliboz horses including breeding mares that have a high proportion of Tersk blood. The focal point of breeding has always been to cross with the Tersk stallion, however it is planned to breed them as pure as possible on the stud farm. There will be a single back crossing to one or two stallions with a little Tersk blood as this will help to maintain the valuable traits of the crosses.
