There are several breeds of draft cross horses like the Clydesdale, the Belgian Draft horse, The Suffolk and the Great shire horse. All these are a kind of draft cross because they are the result of crossing with a draft horse. Among all the draft cross horses the Clydesdale is the most popular horse in the United States and England and is also widely used. However the Clydesdale has made a mark of its own among horses and is famous by its name instead of being called a draft cross. However the most common Draft cross horses that can be found in the United States is the Belgian and it is commonly known as the draft cross horse unlike the Clydesdale.
Some draft cross horses have been used for various equestrian shows and some are even pedigree runners. There are draft cross horses that are used as work horses too like the Percherons. Percherons are good for pulling, jumping and shows. However the Percheron draft cross is not used for dressage as they cannot trot that well. Some of the draft cross horses are almost extinct today like the French Mulassier. Efforts are continued by the horse preservation society to conserve every kind of horse however invariably one or the other breed is lost to time.
The draft cross horses were used for several purposes because of their even temperament and their readiness to work. People in Russia, Netherland and America used the draft cross horses vastly. In America it was used in farming and in Russia it was used by merchants for transporting goods and Netherlands it was used by the fishermen to drag their fishing nets. During the Medieval times in the United Kingdom the draft cross horses were used to carry men in war and were even dressed as knights.
