The Falabella horses were developed in Argentina in the 19th century. It originated from the Andalusian Horses from Latin America that were fetched by the Spaniards during their conquests. After the unsuccessful conquest the Spaniards left the horses to live by themselves.
These horses kept roaming on their own over the enormous plains aimlessly. These horses underwent certain biological transformation so as to get accustomed to the new surroundings that was much diverse from their original terrain. The breed developed great stamina and immense power as they had to wander miles, looking out for water.
The Falabella horses get their names from the Falabella family who spotted these horses in Argentina and thereafter worked for many years developing and experimenting on the breed. After a great amount of inbreeding the family was finally able to get miniature size within the herd. The Falabella horses are a very unique and uncommon breed and there are just a few thousand Falabella Horses throughout the globe.
The Falabella Horses almost have the same quality and characteristics as the other horses. Normally a Falabella adult is around 28 to 34 inches tall. They have the same appearance of horses with an exception that they are short. They have a lean structure. They have strong bones and denser coat especially around the fetlocks and the tail. They have a large head and heavy neck. They are well-structured and well proportioned.
They Falabella Horses usually have Bay or Black coats. However, sometimes they are also palominos and pintos and at times, there are also Red Leopard or Black spotted Falabella horses. The Falabella horses like the company of people and are very mildly tempered. Thus Falabella horses make a brilliant pet. They are generally used in horse shows and also for driving carts.
