The foundation quarter horses are an American breed of horse that derives its name from the quarter mile races that were held in America. Usually these races are held for a distance lesser than a quarter mile or just equal to it. These horses were especially good in sprinting short distance races and that is why the horse was named after the sport itself. So primarily these are race horses and warm blooded. They can run at a speed of 55 miles per hour which is an amazing speed in horse standards. For example a cheetah the fastest living animal on earth runs at 60 miles per hour. Today the American Foundation Quarter Horse is one of the most popular breed in the United States of America and has the largest registry available for horses.
The American Quarter Foundation Horse is popular mainly for race and horse shows along with rodeos. There so many kinds of equestrian shows like driving, western riding, calf roping, barrel racing, reining and dressage. These horses are use in all these shows for their undaunted abilities. Thoroughbred horses gained popularity in the colonial era and even through these equestrian activities man realized that he could develop a deep and meaningful relationship with a horse. The horses also understand human notions well.
In the colonial era in 1600’s a lot of horses were exported to create more thoroughbreds from one country to another. These included premium Arabian horses and barbs. The American Quarter Foundation Horse clearly has the barb blood in it and derives all its positive showmanship qualities from this species. The quarter mile race was however unique to the United States and that is why these horses acquired the name which is so unique. The prior condition for the quarter mile races is however the ground should be flat for the horse to run.
